The Canadian Federation of Humane Societies is happy to announce the Purrrfect Place to Paws summer promotion, a program that will help animal welfare organizations attain stronger animal cruelty legislation, fight puppy mills and educate Canadians on responsible pet ownership.

On Tuesday November 3rd, at a Gala awards ceremony held in Saint John, New Brunswick, Pacrim Hospitality Services Inc. (PHSI) accepted the National Award for Tourism Excellence, Business of the Year – Multiple Unit.  Presented during the Tourism Industry Association of Canada’s (TIAC) annual Leadership Summit, these awards recognize those people, places and organizations that have gone above and beyond to offer a superior tourism experience to travelers in Canada.

“We are honoured to receive this recognition,” said Glenn Squires, CEO of PHSI.  “We constantly strive to provide a quality guest experience, and fully recognize that this is only possible through the dedication and commitment of our staff, partners and hotel owners.  It is on their behalf that we accept this award with gratitude for their efforts and accomplishments.”

The National Awards for Tourism Excellence, presented by The Globe and Mail, were developed in 2003 by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada to recognize and foster Canadian tourism excellence.  The Business of the Year Award recognizes a company that operates a multiple-unit business whose significant contribution to the tourism industry is reflected in the energy, commitment to service and vision that is evident in its operations. Areas of consideration include visitor satisfaction, focus on human resources, business results, positive contribution to the image of Canada’s tourism industry, involvement in the tourism community and the vision for the future.

The Radisson Suite Hotel Halifax, located in the city’s downtown core, has earned two international awards for guest service excellence from Radisson Hotels and Resorts, The Americas. The property, owned by Holloway Lodging Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) and managed by Pacrim Hospitality Services Inc was named as a Gold Level, President’s Award winner and as the recipient of a “Yes I Can” Award from the brand for 2008.

A perennial leader within the family of international Radisson hotels, Radisson Suite Hotel Halifax achieved the most senior level of President’s Award by maintaining exemplary guest service rankings within the brand system. Only two Radisson hotels in Canada, of the 21 overall award recipients in North and South America, were recognized.

The “Yes I Can” Award is earned by hotels that prove to be proactive in identifying and resolving guest problems. Of the 18 “Yes I can” Awards earned, the Radisson Suite Hotel Halifax is the only Canadian hotel. There are 200 Radisson hotels in North and South America. “There’s little doubt that our Radisson Halifax hotel is special,” Glenn Squires, CEO of Holloway Lodging REIT and CEO of Pacrim Hospitality Services Inc said today. “Under the award winning leadership of General Manager Bill Harrison, and thanks to the overall team dedication and unrelenting commitment to guest service, this hotel stands above the crowd in many ways. It is recognized among the finest of downtown Halifax accommodations and these awards are well deserved,” Mr. Squires added.

The Radisson Suite Hotel Halifax has 104 uniquely designed suites each with a separate living room and is located at 1649 Hollis Street in Halifax. The awards will be received by the hotel in June 2009. Three Super 8 hotels in the management portfolio of Pacrim Hospitality Services Inc. were presented with Super 8 Worldwide Awards of Excellence at the international brand conference last month (February 2009) in Orlando, Florida.

Tracie Maynert and Eleanor Heidelberg, team members at Super 8 Langley, British Columbia were recognized with a Golden Pineapple Award for their consistent achievements in leading the hotel’s support of community fund-raising events. Heather Fiala, affectionately known by guests as “The Breakfast Lady” at Super 8 Barrie, Ontario also accepted a Golden Pineapple Award for her outstanding guest service and attention as the Breakfast Bar manager. Her personal touch with guests has been identified by many as an important reason for their loyalty to the hotel.

The team at Super 8 Calgary-Shawnessy, which over the past several years has raised as much as $100,000 for cancer research, was recognized with a Spirit of Super 8 Award. The hotel hosts Calgary Stampede events, such as a Pancake Breakfast, annually. During the awards presentations Pacrim Hospitality Services Inc. (PHSI) and CEO Glenn Squires received the Dennis Brown Memorial Award recognizing achievements in developing a significant number of Super 8 properties across Canada “from the ground up”. Established in 1990 the award is made in memory of the co-founder of Super 8 Worldwide. There are 30 Canadian Super 8 hotels in the portfolio of Pacrim Hospitality Services Inc.

CEO Glenn Squires said that all of these awards are important and valued by everyone in the company. “These awards recognize the outstanding efforts of individual teams and team members for customer service and community service and are highly cherished. The same passion and commitment to excellence that is being acknowledged with these awards, is offered to our guests everyday,” Mr. Squires said. “As a company we are exceptionally proud of these colleagues.”
